Retail Winners, Losers and Amazon
Amazon continues to dominate ecommerce sales -- but who else is winning, and why? Data insights company Jumpshot has analyzed anonymous consumer actions on ecommerce sites and marketplaces from 2017 through 2018, to surface which brands are standing out and which risk falling behind.
Online-focused retailers such as Etsy, Chewy, and Wayfair were able to grow their online transactions by double digits in 2018, particularly by carving out specific niches for themselves. Etsy, for example, is seeing nearly +50% YoY growth in jewelry and accessories, while Amazon was -0.1% in that same category. Similarly, Wayfair's YoY growth for furniture transactions has been +52%, while Amazon's sat at just +6%.
On the other hand, which companies have risked falling behind, and what contributed to that decline? Jumpshot has looked at Jet.com, Gamestop, Barnes & Noble, Sears, Toys R Us, Office Depot, and Best Buy to see how their market shares and YoY growth compare to others in the industry -- and the role Amazon is playing in the outcome.
